Hazel Barry
After growing up in Klamath Falls, Oregon, and as a young mother of three, I initially began oil painting by taking lessons in order to learn the basics. This was followed by a period of self-study eventually creating my own detailed style. At the age of 44, I enrolled in college for the first time (UCSB) studying interior design. Meanwhile my easel was set up in the corner patiently waiting. I studied art museums, magazines and galleries, whatever I came in contact with, learning and knowing that sometime I would return to my painting. Now many years later, after having my own design business and owning a series of successful home decor shops, I once again have the privilege of devoting myself full time to my painting. I feel strongly that the education and experience as an interior designer and a business woman have strengthened my paintings and have brought in a depth that may not have been there before. What inspires me now are the simple details of life: the sunlight illuminating a flower petal; the way the light moves across a still life; the smile of a young child. I simple have to paint them. I now live in Medford with my husband Jim. Memberships: Oil Painters of America, So. Oregon Society of Artists Web site: hazelbarry.com |
