Arlen Goodwine

At the core of Arlen is a need to be always entwined with productively creative and learning processes. Painting has been the one constant throughout his many careers and hobbies and places he has called home. Although Arlen's preferred medium is oils, he also works with acrylics, gouache and watercolor.

Arlen's interest in shapes, colors, form and function goes back to his childhood in the UK. After attending King's College fine arts program at Cambridge University, he returned to his native Colorado. He served as an electronics technician in the US Navy during the Korean War.

Among Arlen's other careers and hobbies in the ensuing years have been: commercial artist and industrial designer; car racing with the Sports Car Club of America; woodworking; art director for Expo '74 in Spokane; rock climbing; college art teacher; and lastly and most lengthily, computer software developer in both independent developing/consulting and traditional employment. He retired from the IT department at Harry & David in 2008.

Arlen met his wife, Carol, in 1990 while he was working in Victoria, BC. They have lived in Ashland or Medford since 1995.
