Alice Niemiec was born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit. In the early 1970’s, she attended O.C.C. in Farmington Hills, Michigan. She spent the next two years at Arts and Crafts – Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, where she studied watercolor under Richard Jersey. In 1975, Alice joined with a group of other young artists and started a non-profit gallery, the Artist Guild of Detroit. It was a platform for aspiring artists in the Detroit area. They were part of a group of artists called the Tribes of Cass Corridor. The guild was presented with a Beautification Award by the City of Detroit for renovating an old brownstone in the shadow of the Fisher Building.
Alice has taught art in the school system and in her studio in Northern California since the 1980’s. She has painted murals, window displays, and backdrop scenery for plays.
Ms. Niemiec has exhibited in juried shows in Michigan, New York, Arizona, California, Colorado and Oregon. She has studied under numerous painters, most notably Will Collier of Santa Rosa, California, and Western artist Donald Putman.
