“I am drawn to subjects that inspire me to paint a “story”, and I encounter them everywhere. My process is guided by them, helping me to find the color palette, composition and medium that allows me to best tell their story. This is shown in the vibrant colors of my paintings while living in Mexico, the loose reference to early biological illustrations in my Beetle Series and the more muted, atmospheric feel to my steam locomotive works.”

BIO

For over forty years art has been my focus; as an illustrator, art teacher and fine artist. A BFA from the Art Center College of Design and an MA from California State University Los Angeles provided the rigorous training needed to succeed in the commercial art world and the opportunity to enjoy 3o years as a full-time art teacher at Pasadena City College.

In 2001 my wife Teresa and I moved to the central coast of California where I began creating more personal work, getting involved with local art associations and galleries, and teaching private classes and workshops.

Always open to new inspirations, in 2009, we moved to the enchanting town of San Miguel de Allende in the heart of Mexico. The paintings created while there reflect the color, light and vibrancy of the town and its people.

In 2015 we returned to the States where we landed in beautiful Ashland, Oregon. I’ve become involved with several art groups and am looking at opportunities for exhibiting and teaching.
